The death toll is high enough. It need never have begun.
Before a long and bloody civil war breaks out, it is time to consider introducing the outlines of a real solution to the Ukrainian issue, rather than continuing to impose more big-power self-serving agendas, which has been Ukraine’s legacy for a century. The vital and relevant background of the divergent political and cultural realities which have ALWAYS existed in the territory known as Ukraine, must be satisfied for all such parties – Galicians, Ukrainians and Novorossiyans. Because there are THREE Ukraines, which have never been, nor ever will be, “united”.
The most critical part of this crisis, Alexander Dugin has accurately noted, is an extension of a century-long struggle for a local identity, emanating from Western Ukraine. Since independence, it is that Western influence, Galicia and Lviv, which has been trying to expand its rump territory into a “Greater Ukraine” identity into the East, which is, and always has been, “The Ukraine”, and “Greater Russia” (or at least since Catherine the Great, Novorossiya). Repeated Galician insistence on gradually expanding their political domination of the Eastern Oblasts , (or at least resistance to any Russian-oriented political control) is the basis of the conflict, and it has been for 100 years. It was the same during the Bolshevik era, during WW2, during the Stalin Era, and post-independence, all of which have involved ethnic intolerance, hatred, and mass ethnic killings.
When EU would not permit the creation of a Ukrainian “duality”, with membership in both the EU and EURASIA, Baroness Ashton’s “either-or” ultimatum forced the disruption of the precarious experiment in national balance. Ukrainian divisiveness did not start on the Maidan. The Maidan’s anti-corruption protest, with US incitement, became an ultimatum to the entire country to capitulate to the ultra-nationalist point of view, including abandonment of the Constitution, and the dual nature of Ukraine itself. If we dare to admit the truth, the Galicians are the separatists-secessionists from the previously democratic status quo.
Being shuttled and abused between Poland, Germany and the Soviet Union, for over a century, Galicia/Lviv also have a right of self-determination (despite their retro-fascist tendencies). Unfortunately , those tendencies include unjustified territorial expansion, and no longer wanting to share any power with anyone with Russian affinities. The struggle has been conveniently “framed” by US and EU media as “Donbass separatists,” because it suits the Western political hysteria-mantra, their hegemonic oil and gas interests, and Russian containment strategy. It is a completely distorted propaganda fabrication. Worse, it perpetuates the MYTH of a United Ukraine. Bombing and shelling Donbass has proven that to be a fraud. Moreover, it has forever alienated everyone with Russian cultural identity, whatever nationality they may consider themselves.
Why did the coup happen then? (besides the obvious American interference?) The originally scheduled election of 2015 would have had the same results as previous ones – electoral dominance by Donbass. Rather than seceding, and declaring their own independence via referendum and likely US/EU support, US-backed Galicians opted for a manufactured coup, infiltrating a legitimate anti-corruption Maidan protest. They were inadvertently abetted by a heavy-handed and inept Yanukovych, who failed multiple opportunities to control events, and failed to realize the futility of maintaining “Ukrainian Unity” with a group that wanted it only on their own terms. While the “true” capital of the ultra-nationalists is Lviv, as long as the interim government operates from Kiev, it is difficult to clarify public perception to allow the inevitable long term political solution.
The electoral equation is the same reason Russia has been pushing the Minsk Protocol terms. As part of Ukraine, Donbass and Russian ethnics can vote control of the national agenda based on population – overwhelmingly in the East, and as a plurality in much of Ukraine proper (former Novorossiya). Seceding now leaves “Greater Ukraine” in the hands of the Galician ultra-nationalist minority, without the benefit of ANY electoral process, and possible imposition of martial law over everything BUT Donbass.
The only real solution is allowing the exercise of self-determination to happen, without superpowers, or Normandy Group imposition. As with every election since independence, the Ukrainians will confirm their three cultural and political entities: Galicia, Ukraine and Novorossiya. Each should be allowed the government and affiliations it wants. It is time for EU, US and UK to either accept the concept of democracy, or declare it, and themselves, to be frauds. What happens in Ukraine will define the entire 21st Century.
The US agenda has been clear from the beginning. Continue to expand NATO, threatening Russian security, betting that Russia will concede, rather than risk war. Concede what? Superpower status, access to Russian natural resources by EUSUK corporations and banks, subjugation to US military and economic hegemony, and bolstering the failing US petrodollar. Surrender – with or without a direct hot war, or through a series of peripheral proxy wars, particularly in CIS Muslim provinces and republics. From Sikes-Picot to Lloyd George and Churchill, superpowers drawing lines on maps to suit their own interests has caused innumerable wars, Ukraine being only the most recent.
Ukraine cannot continue to be fraudulently portrayed as Eastern separatism and Russian intervention. The real solution is to allow Lviv and Galicia to formalize THEIR independence, secede from a “corrupt, illegal, chaotic, bankrupt Kiev government” and let All Three Ukraines finally achieve the self determination they have always wanted. The same as the Crimeans wanted and got theirs. The current center will likely vote to remain “Ukraine,” but Poroshenko-Turgynov’s ATO civilian terror bombing has irreversibly created a new national identity, Novorossiya (whether Putin, Merkel, or Obama like it or not.) To determine the borders of this new nation, one need only look at past election results to get a likely configuration. It would expand beyond the LPR/DPR oblasts to include Kharkov to the Northeast and Odessa to the south and west to Romania. While this unfortunately land locks Kiev-Ukraine, that is the price of war and demographics. It is also the most secure outcome for Russia.
Keeping Galicia as part of central Ukraine also may be a lost cause, for both sides, certainly a potential disaster for legitimate non-fascist government, and functional economy in Ukraine proper. Frankly, Galicia might be better served if it voted to join Poland, Hungary or Slovakia, or segmented, however decided by their own local preference.
Conclusion: A negotiated Czech-Slovak-style split into three independent States is the best proposal for long term resolution and SOLUTION. United Ukraine means a dysfunctional State, certain civil war, and many dead Galicians, Ukrainians, Novorossiyans, and perhaps Europeans.
It is time for Merkel, Obama and Putin to allow the Ukrainian people to tell them what they want. Ukrainians themselves know the real solution. They know who they want as their countrymen. They have always voted that way. It is time NOT to be greedy for territory, but for stability and peace.
It can be done, and the final result is almost obvious, unless true peace is not an option acceptable to the US and EU. ~ Daniel ODonoju
The attacks are against “pro-Russian Ukrainians”, not military targets, nor even the specific government buildings taken over by the locals. Apparently occupying government buildings is now a capital crime in Ukraine (except in Kiev’s Maidan). The Western propaganda is hysterically and universally and immediately Anti-PUTIN, not anti-Strelkov.
The agenda seems to be to PROVOKE a Soviet-style reaction by Russia, which can be SOLD by PROPAGANDA as “another Russian invasion of a US ally.” Despite this explanation, Crimea was re-affiliated with mother Russia by overwhelming popular support, with absolute minimum casualties, in contrast to Kiev’s attempts to re-affiliate Donbass. If Russia can be maneuvered to be perceived as brutally invading Ukraine “against international law”, NATO would be “required” to respond with direct attacks on Russia from East European forward NATO bases, which were installed with full preparatory logistics (“purely defensively” of course). Now these bases are being quietly (i.e.: ignored by MSM) readied with increased aircraft, and “symbolic” transfers of elite military units, from the Baltic to the Balkans.
Now, the Ukrainian army has been surreptitiously shelling RUSSIAN territory near Rostov, while Western media is claiming that Russia is building up forces on the border and shelling Ukraine FROM Russia.
The GOAL is apparently ALL OUT WAR with Russia and forcible retaking of Crimea. Undoubtedly with the objective of disabling Russia’s Black Sea fleet, giving NATO total DIRECT control of the Black Sea access route to Caspian Oil & Gas reserves, with or without Russian Pipelines.
US doesn’t want a cease fire, nor will it be satisfied with a Ukraine Confederation including Donbass. It is committed to military confrontation. US wants the GAS. It wants an excuse for inflating the petrodollar, and it needs cover to avoid the US economy from tanking, especially before the November US elections. It just needs to catch the public up with the decision already made.
If this is the strategy, it is becoming desperate, especially with the breakup of the junta government. The Right Wing Svoboda has bolted. UDAR has no influence. The Tymoshenko-proxy PM has quit. Now, the war will have to accelerate, and become more like Syria, with increasingly random Right Sektor atrocities, at the direction of the CIA. ESPECIALLY if MH17 is shown to be a failed US false flag.
Something will have to occur to generate sufficient outrage to start a full scale NATO-Russian war. The West seems to be hard at work in the propaganda arena. The current tack continues to be trying to provoke Putin to make a drastic move. But, so far, Putin seems to have figured that out! He is presenting HIS evidence about MH17, while quietly arming Donbass with defensive weaponry against the civilian terror bombing by Kiev in such a way as to maintain some thin deniability. He cannot allow the West to attack his flank and do nothing.

For many persons, the Blue and Yellow piece, turns bitter in the mouth.
Be cautious when eating.
DO NOT throw away the one piece covered in Red White and Blue foil.
It is a preservative. It is the only thing keeping the chocolate from turning rotten.

***ETHNIC MEXICANS IN TEXAS HAVE OVERTHROWN THE GOVERNMENT OF GOVERNOR RICK PERRY***
Violent demonstrations in San Antonio, escalating since November, have left 100 dead, including 17 Texas Rangers. The Alamo has been burned and dismantled by demonstrators using Molotov cocktails, and adobe blocks from the structure to hurl at the Rangers. The Chinese Communist government, while denying any involvement, have recruited ethnic Mexican nationals to demand an end to the dictatorial interference by Barack Obama and the American Fascist government in Washington DC to keep Texas in the American Union and sphere of influence. “America has no right to interfere in the activities of Texas” despite significant historical ties, said the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Secret tape recordings disclosed by WikiLeaks reveal the PRC has spent $5Billion Yuan in fomenting ethnic unrest in the region, leading to demonstrations which began in November, but became violent last week. Perry is assumed to have ordered the Texas Rangers to retake the Alamo, besieged by the demonstrators, in a conflict which resulted in almost 100 deaths.
Despite many earlier concessions by Governor Perry to peacefully resolve the issue, he has reportedly fled Texas and is presumed somewhere in US territory. A warrant has been issued for his arrest in the mass murder of 80 ethnic TexMexicans heavenly heroes.
China has immediately recognized the new provisional government, and has promised billions of Yuan in economic aid. It is widely rumored that the deal was in exchange for control of Texas gas pipelines and access to the port of Houston to house a Chinese Naval Base, and leasing Johnson Space Center for future Chinese space missions. The Chinese yuan has now been declared legal tender and the official currency of Texas.
President Obama has been warned not to “cross the line” in defending any American “imperialist” interests. American oligarch Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys football team has also fled the state. The team has been renamed the Dallas Vaqueros., and the stadium renamed Santa Ana Memorial Colisseum.
Speculation persists that pro-American nationalists may use military force to eventually divide the state along the Brazos River, based on ethnic demographics. On the other hand, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has stressed the need for maintaining the territorial integrity of Texas, based on the 1846 Treaty of Accession boundaries, (although that treaty was NEVER ratified by the Texas legislature at the time.)
In typical fashion, Western media has brutally castigated President Obama for considering the use of military force to recapture the State. Interrupting a recent golf vacation in Hawaii, Obama returned to Washington to order Military units of the Oklahoma National Guard Federalized, and they have taken up positions occupying the Panhandle, which is now reported under US control from Amarillo north, along the I-40 Interstate. Amarillo Airport is under martial law, and patrolled by US troops and SWAT teams
Protests throughout the world are condemning Obama as a brutal dictator conspiring once again “to crush the democratic aspirations of ethnic Latino people”.
The Organization of American States has issued a resolution of solidarity with the protestors, and pledged economic aid through the Rothschild Central banks in each country.
It is unknown at this time who will head the provisional government, but it is widely assumed the new President/Governor will be selected by the Chinese from the ranks of the Zeta Cartel party.
Several neutral commentators have noted the remarkable similarities between the situations in Texas and Ukraine.
Freedom of choice in Ukraine
REALLY? Choice is not the issue in Ukraine. Gas pipelines to Europe is the issue. Strategic surrounding of Russia is the issue. Drawing former allies of USSR into NATO is the issue.
Ukrainians making their own choices is NOT the issue.
Ukrainians have elected a government and a President, peaceably, fairly, without US /EU interference for 20 years, since the breakup of USSR. Now, when that government CHOOSES to re-evaluate EU affiliation and slow the process down, US & EU decide the people are being denied a choice, so the EU/and US will tell them what choice they SHOULD make, because the first choice… they don’t agree with.
Ukraine’s elected government CHOSE not to pursue EU integration at the original pace, due to economic factors, which such integration would exacerbate. They offered Ukraine ‘austerity’ preconditions and the likelihood of imploding the industrial economy of Eastern Ukraine, because it didn’t meet EU standards.
Apparently, there is only ONE choice that Ukrainians can make to be acceptable to the West. Otherwise, the West doesn’t really support choice at all.
JOHN KERRY’s “choice” –
“Nowhere is the FIGHT for a democratic, EUROPEAN future more important today than in Ukraine,” U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said. “The United States and EU stand with the PEOPLE of Ukraine in that FIGHT.”
It seems like he chooses differently than the ‘PEOPLE’ who ELECTED the government. He prefers to side with a mob in one Ukrainian city who want to overthrow the elected government.
He added that protesters believed their futures “do not have to lie with one country alone, and certainly not coerced”. One acceptable option is apparently for Ukraine to be divided, and only coerced by EU/US.
Ukraine has much more common political history with Russia than with the West, yet the media try to pretend this is ‘usurpation’ and interference by Russia. The “Kyiv Rus” were the ORIGINAL ethnic basis of the Russian peoples.
VALERY KLITSCHKO’s ‘CHOICE’- “We have to act now before it is too late,” he said. “We want to ensure the crisis in the Ukraine is solved because it can trigger a crisis in the whole region.” True, but conveniently forgetting his “action” CAUSED the crisis. His party did not prevail in the elections, so protest and overthrow is now the preferred “democratic” alternative. While the current government is economically inept and overbearing, Klitschko’s joining in common purpose on the streets with radical right wing and neo-fascist political parties, who aggravate the situation on the street with Molotov cocktails, is hardly an endorsement of his political acumen in solving anything.
NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen’s ‘CHOICE’ –
“We insist on full respect for the fundamental principle that each and every country has an inherent right to freely choose its alliances.” … Except if NATO disagrees? Ukraine DID choose. I guess he believes a group of protestors should make strategic policy, not the elected government.
European Council President Herman Van Rompuy’s ‘CHOICE’ –
“The future of Ukraine belongs with the European Union.”
….OH, I thought you said it was UKRAINE’S choice?
He added – “the EU’s offer of an association deal remained on the table.” REALLY? Then what is the hurry to overthrow Ukraine’s elected government?
The Ukraine crisis is manufactured by US/EU supported puppets to disrupt Russian gas pipeline deals to Europe, and to militarily threaten Russia’s southern flank. Overthrowing a president in mid term is NOT democratic. There are regular elections scheduled in 2015, but apparently not on a timetable acceptable to US/EU, who seem intent on dictating the “will of the people”.
If overthrowing an elected government in mid term is now defined as “democratic,” when there are regional protests against policies that some of the electorate disagree with, should this be used as a precedent for the United States government as well?
At 40% approval rating, Mr. Obama might want to reconsider that policy. Certainly, this would be interesting news for the “Occupy” and “Anonymous” movements.
If Bashar Assad really has used chemical weapons on his own people in a big way, America MUST intervene” – Headline in The Economist Aug 22 2013
Days after arrival of a UN inspection team, now on the ground in Syria, ready to inspect earlier reports of chemical weapons use, new reports claim 1300 new dead, without visible trauma.
A year ago this week, President Obama said that use of chemical weapons by Assad would be a game changer for direct US involvement in the civil war.
According to Vladimir Putin, sarin gas use has an equal potential to be used by the Al Queda-backed rebels to trigger American involvement.
Without disputing the tragedy of 1300 people in a Damascus suburb being gassed by sarin, does it make sense that Assad would be the one to risk the apparently SOLE action that would bring the US into the war against him? He has managed to maintain the upper hand for a full year since Obama’s announcement without using gas and avoiding the inevitable fate of Libya’s Moammar Ghadaffi. Why would he do it now while there are inspectors readily available to become the authoritative accusers against him?
The rebels, those of ‘eat the heart of your enemy on TV” fame, have made no progress in a year, unless destroying a large part of the economy and infrastructure of Syria can be considered progress. Perhaps they need to stage a real or ‘made for youtube’ gas attack to get some desperately needed help for their cause.
The time has come to question EVERYTHING that the media reports not as fact, but as propaganda intended to persuade the public to a pre-determined opinion or to anesthetize them with contradicting exposures. There are no independent, trustworthy, authoritative sources able to confirm or deny whether such attacks actually happened, and if so, who perpetrated them. Or is it just one more “Wag the Dog” scenario being played out here, simultaneous to so many in Egypt? Is there ANY trustworthy journalism LEFT in the world media? Or is everything now propaganda with a purpose?
I think there is likely very little confusion in the real agenda playing out in the Middle East, which may have little to do with the sideshow on the ground. There is a long term geopolitical process continuing in the region, about Big Power spheres of influence and long-term control of increasingly scarce oil/energy for the latter half of the 21st century. It began prior to World War 1. Regional history since then, and since the discovery of the world’s primary oil reserve, have just been a sequence of moves on a chessboard.
Israel, Palestine, Algeria, Suez, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Arab Spring… Move, countermove.
Jew, Arab, Muslim, Shiite, Sunni… bluff, counterbluff.
None of the on-ground tragedy is relevant to the manipulators of these events. People on both sides are expendable, and it matters not whether gas was used against established political and moral convention. If the gas attack is true, it is a tactic. Whether true or not, media coverage is also a tactic. By whom, for what is yet to be seen.
The stakes are much greater here, and no one is backing down. Timing is important here. This a proxy for the real events to come. Is it coincidence that the world’s monetary system is now more precarious than in 2007-8? All Mideast countries having upheavals simultaneously? Is this all building to a crescendo? Or is that just what we are supposed to think?
China, America and Russia are laying the groundwork for the next (strategic economic) world war, maneuvering for control over the essential resources of Central Asia and Africa. The battle grounds are in the worlds commodity markets, Central Banks, and geo-political flashpoints played out by surrogates, who have been duped not to see themselves as pawns. If there are Syrian rebels, troops, or civilian women and children who are foaming at the mouth, writhing in asphyxiation, and dying a horrible death this week, they are just the latest collateral damage caught in the crossfire.
The ‘stage’ has been literally ‘set’ so that America not only ‘should’ intervene, but now we “MUST”!
Is this the Pearl Harbor of Armageddon? And is it a real or staged media creation designed solely to CONVINCE us we “MUST”, so that we don’t consider “Who WANTS it and WHY?
As US mainstream media increasingly tries to portray Putin ONLY as a Stalinesque dictator, this FASCINATING interview (without a Teleprompter or pre-determined questions) indicates he also happens to be a world-class intellectual, extremely well-read, and a statesman with a very refined sense of history, and sophisticated international perspective. I wish America had one that at least recognized how to wield governmental power and have a realistic perspective on Western hegemony. A dictator, certainly, but one to be reckoned with, with equal resolve, not platitudes. His impact on the world is by no means over.
(NB: that he answered the English question w/o interpretation).
It’s VITALLY important for Americans / Canadians to get their news from sources other than domestic drivel. RT is an excellent news bureau. I recommend it highly.
Putin: A Very impressive world-class leader, whether you condone his tactics or not; one to be reckoned with seriously, unlike the mouthpieces prevalent in the West. This interview is essential viewing (several times). I believe there is a growing dissatisfaction with the expanding American “empire” being imposed on the world in the wake of 9/11 “security” measures. Putin is not about to let either America or oligarchs he doesn’t personally control, determine the future of Russia. One must know and study one’s adversaries.
